Participant's Guide to the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute 2014

What to Pack

Teacher Institutue Participants

You should plan to dress comfortably throughout the week; the pace of the Institute involves 10- to 12-hour days, with three to five miles of walking throughout the day being common. The summer weather in Virginia is usually 90+ degrees with high humidity and occasional afternoon thundershowers. The extremely hot and humid weather can take its toll on those who are unprepared. Cool and comfortable clothing is a necessity.

Shorts and comfortable walking/athletic shoes are highly recommended. Laundry facilities are not available on site, so please pack appropriately.

Be sure to bring:

  • hat
  • sunglasses
  • sunscreen
  • bug spray
  • umbrella or poncho
  • any medications you may need during the week
  • photo identification
  • mobile device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or tablet and their chargers
  • camera and memory cards
  • extra batteries and/or recharging cords

Please Note: All of our Teacher Institute programs now require participants to have and use a mobile device throughout the week. It may be a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. We have switched to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model in order to keep pace with technological advancements and classroom requirements. Using these devices, we will demonstrate methods for enhancing resource accessibility and the student experience through technology. While on site you will use your device to download content, participate in online forums, explore resources, and complete evaluations.
