Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute

Teacher Instute ParticipantsThe Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute is designed for elementary, middle, and high school social studies educators who teach U.S. history and government. These intensive, six-day Institutes immerse participants in American history. Elementary and middle school teachers focus on the colonial and early national period “on location” in Williamsburg and at nearby historic sites.

High school educators explore how issues continually recur throughout American history. Teachers debate some of these issues using the framework of tensions between American values—including unity vs. diversity, private wealth vs. common wealth, law vs. ethics, and freedom vs. equality. These values underlie how generations of American citizens have taken action to address problems facing our nation, and to change the course of American history.
