You
and your manservant ride on horseback the few miles to Port Royal and find
a private room in a tavern. Your manservant joins the slaves in the kitchen
and laundry. You go into the public room. It's noisy here with the talking,
drinking, and songs ("Come
Let Us Drink About") usually found in these taverns. After talking
with several men you find the captain of a small ship and inquire about transportation
to Hampton Roads.
You
arrange passage with the captain but it is two days before he is ready to
hoist sail and head south to Hampton. The weather is fair and the trip does
not take long. In two days, you anchor in Hampton Harbor. You disembark and
arrange for transportation to Williamsburg.
How will you and your manservant travel this last leg of the journey?
