Borguess getting out of stage The stagewagon is inexpensive but not very comfortable. You are packed in with more common people, people well below your social status. In fact, the lady next to you has brought a chicken with her and it pecks at your clothes all through the trip. You arrive in Williamsburg tired and haggard. What's worse, word quickly spreads about your choice in transportation.

When you arrive at the Capitol building, fellow burgesses greet you with smiles and jokes. "Burgess Andrews rides with the riff-raff" or, "the burgess who can't afford a horse." You realize that transportation is more than a way to reach your destination; it reflects your own station and aspirations in society.

The burgess's journey is over. Now take another trip in colonial Virginia!
