Pheasant

Burgess on horseYou rent horses for yourself and your manservant in Hampton and begin the 30-mile ride to Williamsburg. Your horse is skittish but you manage to spur him onward.

In your haste, you do not notice a blacksnake slithering toward a pheasant. The pheasant flaps its wings jumps out of the brush by the side of across the road. Your horse is startled--it throws you and bolts for the countryside. Your manservant helps you up and brushes the dust off your traveling coat. You are not badly hurt, but you've lost your horse.

What will you do?
