Family riding on cartOxen and cart cost almost a quarter of your savings, but the oxen are good work animals and you will need them later to make Oxenyour farm successful. They will help you pull tree stumps out to clear your new fields and plow your fields once you reach Bedford County. The cart carries all your possessions during the trip--it even carries your children when they tire of walking. On the farm it will haul equipment and produce.

You set out on your journey. You cannot afford even a public bedchamber to spend your nights at a tavern, so each evening you pitch a simple tent alongside the road. One day, as a thunderstorm approaches from the northwest, you come upon a river already swollen with water.

How will you proceed?

Cross the river before it rises any higher

Wait until the storm passes and the river subsides

Travel downstream to find a shallow spot to cross the river
