Teaching Resources for Your Classroom

Colonial Williamsburg offers a variety of quality instructional materials to help you teach students about life in early America, including the following:

Hand-Blown Water GlassHAND-BLOWN WEATHER GLASS

The weather glass was invented in Holland during the 17th century. When partly filled with colored water, air pressure makes the liquid rise and fall in the spout. High pressure means a low water level in the spout (indicating nice weather). Low pressure makes the water rise and sometimes bubble over slightly (indicating inclement weather). Dutch pilgrims are reputed to have brought these interesting creations to America in the 1620s. (9 3/4" H x 4 3/4" W) $24.00. Available from Williamsburg Marketplace.
