In the eighteenth century, half the population of colonial Williamsburg was African-American. But until recently, we haven't known much about them—because only in the last twenty years have researchers begun carefully searching out their stories.

And there's so much more to be learned. Who were they, those first African-Americans? Where did they come from? And how did they become enslaved in the first place?
