Colonial Williamsburg "Becoming Americans" Study Visits
: Helpful Hints
: Weather, Clothing and Other Suppiles
Most of the time your group spends in Williamsburg will be out of doors, and you will enjoy yourselves more if you are adequately prepared for the weather. Please be sure that your group members are dressed appropriately for the expected temperatures and have rain gear and sunscreen with them. Most of all, wear comfortable shoes.
To accelerate your check-in time, know the number of participants in your group – adults, children, and how many are in each smaller group once you have divided them. (Colonial Williamsburg requires that two adult chaperones accompany each interpreter-led tour.)
Once your group leaves the bus, it may not be accessible until the end of the tour. Please be sure your group members are prepared for the day when they leave the bus.
Some items participants may want to have with them while touring:
- Walking shoes with socks – much of our terrain is uneven and the town is nearly a mile in length. You will be walking for several hours.
- Bottled water
- Camera
- Sunglasses
- Study supplies such as pencils, small notebooks, question sheets
- Communication devices for chaperones or teachers. If cell phones are used, “silent mode” while touring is appreciated.
- Emergency information for each participant should be kept with the teachers or chaperones accompanying the participants. In the event of an emergency, this information is invaluable to our medical and security personnel. Medic alert identification is also helpful.
