These intensive six-day onsite programs immerse participants in American history. Each program is tailored to meet common core and state content standards in United States history and government. Programs are targeted for elementary, middle and high school teachers.
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” — Socrates
Join the Colonial Williamsburg Enlightenment Forum and kindle the educational spirit within. Each two-day workshop will give participants a chance to delve deeply into the complexities of the past through topics ranging from the colonial economy to the founding principles of our nation.
The Colonial Economy
Fall 2015 and Spring 2016
The American colonies were an integral part of the eighteenth-century global economic system. Explore how Virginia's tobacco economy contributed to the larger world economy and affected the daily lives of those who lived and worked in the capital city of Williamsburg. Discover how the American Revolution set in motion changes that would have a lasting effect on the American economy.
The Constitution and American Protest
How does the United States Constitution attempt to balance changing democratic ideas? How have citizens shaped and challenged the definition of American democracy? This weekend workshop will seek to develop an understanding of those essential questions and determine where the Idea of America truly began. Please join us for a weekend of exploring and engaging primary documents, historians, and debate.
Tuition: $199 per person per session.
Registration for these programs will open approximately July 11th.
