Today in the 1770s: December 20

WILLIAMSBURG, December 20, 1776.
It is reported that Capt. Travis, in a cruizer from this State, has taken three valuable prizes, one of them a Jamaicaman; but as none of them are yet arrived here, the news wants confirmation.

The next issue of the the newspaper reported that Capt. Travis had returned to port, but he had not captured any enemy ships. Captain Edward Travis of the Jamestown Travis family commanded a sloop that had been taken from the British the year before.
