Kate Mearns of the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg Named “Favorite Spa Manager” in prestigious 6th annual SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards

SpaFinder Inc., the global spa resource, has announced that Kate Mearns of the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg is one of eleven individuals to be named “Favorite Spa Manager” in the sixth annual SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards. The category, which has been newly introduced this year, augments the list of awards that represent the most complete consumer assessment of the global spa market available today.

“Our Readers’ Choice Awards have become the industry’s premier award program – the spa world’s answer to the Academy Awards,” said SpaFinder, Inc. President Susie Ellis. “It is a tremendous honor to receive this award—it’s particularly special to be recognized as the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg celebrates its one year anniversary,” says Kate Mearns, the spa’s director.

Kate Mearns has spent the past 13 years sharing her belief that the spa experience should be primarily about one’s wellness. Mearns’ conviction fits perfectly within the philosophy upon which The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg was created - a continuum of wellness. With spa experiences based on historical wellness practices from the past five centuries and into today, the Spa relates the ongoing process of individual health through time, blending inspiration from colonial, African and American Indian wellness practices, and influencing subsequent generations.

A complete listing of Readers’ Choice Award winners will be featured in SpaFinder’s 2009 Global SpaFinder and can also be viewed at http://www.spafinder.com/spaguide/readerschoice/2008.jsp.

Opened spring 2007, The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg celebrates the Best of the American Experience with signature spa experiences and products that provide a 21st-century interpretation of five centuries of relaxation and healing practices from European, African and American Indian cultures that all reflect the spa motto, a continuum of wellness. The new, 20,000-square-foot facility contains 12 treatment rooms and 3 relaxation lounges in addition to a full menu of traditional massage, hair, skin and nail care. An adjoining fitness facility features the latest cardiovascular and strength training equipment and group exercise classes. Located just steps from the hotels of the Colonial Williamsburg Resort Collection, spa experiences are available à la carte for resort guests and day visitors.
