Williamsburg Lodge Restaurant offers Taste of the Taverns

Williamsburg Lodge Restaurant has expanded its menu to include select items from Colonial Williamsburg’s historic taverns during the month of January. For lunch, scrumptious tavern fare such as King’s Arms peanut soup, warm beef salad, Norfolk pottage pie and Mildred Chowning’s crab cake sandwich join Lodge lunch favorites Caesar salad, French onion soup and smoked turkey Reuben on the menu.

For dinner, the Lodge Restaurant “Taste of the Taverns” menu include Christiana Campbell’s Tavern crab cakes with warm vegetable slaw and rémoulade sauce, Shields Tavern Welsh rarebit, King’s Arms Tavern game pie and Shields seafood gumbo. Lodge favorites such as Vidalia onion soup, Chesapeake clam chowder, Caesar salad, spiced Mobjack fried oysters, artisan cheeses from Wisconsin and Virginia, filet mignon, wild mushroom ravioli and Surry shrimp and grits are among the regular items also offered for dinner.

Desserts sure to tempt include King’s Arms Tavern pecan pie, Christiana Campbell’s Tavern rum cream pie, crème brûlée and bananas Foster in phyllo with white chocolate and homemade caramel sauce.

Guests who prefer lighter fare in the evening can enjoy a crackling wood fire in the Lobby Lounge with a favorite beverage and choices from the Taste of the Tavern lunch menu from 5 p.m. nightly. The Lodge Restaurant is open daily for breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., for lunch from noon to 2 p.m. and for dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. The Taste of the Tavern menu is offered in the Lodge Restaurant for dinner daily through the end of January, except Friday nights, when the popular Lodge seafood buffet is served. Taste of the Tavern lighter fare menu is available for lunch daily in the Lodge Restaurant and in the Lobby Lounge every evening. New this winter, the Raleigh Tavern Bakery is offering hot soup and sandwiches daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing a warm spot for a light lunch or snack in Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area. The bakery is located behind the Raleigh Tavern on Duke of Gloucester St. near the Capitol.
