CW honors military during Veterans Day weekend
Colonial Williamsburg will honor veterans, U.S. military personnel and their families during special Veterans Day weekend programs Nov. 9-11. The celebration includes complimentary admission for veterans, U.S. military personnel and their families to the Historic Area, special programs and a parade in their honor, and lodging discounts for all veterans and active, reserve and retired members of any branch of the Armed Forces, and their families.
“Our fellow citizens in the military serve our nation protecting those very ideals and values that were fought for in Williamsburg over 200 years ago,” said Colonial Williamsburg President and Chairman Colin G. Campbell. “These are challenging times for all Americans, especially those in the military and their families, and we want to express our appreciation for their service, past, present and future.”
Veterans Day weekend will feature special programs, presentations and a parade Saturday, Nov. 9. The parade steps off from the Capitol at 4 p.m. and will showcase the Colonial Williamsburg militia, the Rhode Island Regiment—an African-American unit of the Continental Army—and the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums. The parade also will highlight color and honor guards and will invite participation from active military personnel as well as veteran groups—such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The parade concludes on Market Square in the Historic Area with a ceremony in honor of the nation’s active military personnel and veterans, ending with musket volley salutes by the Colonial Williamsburg militia.
In addition to offering free admission, with valid ID or discharge documents, to any veteran, active, reserve or retired member of the U.S. military, Colonial Williams-burg also will offer current and former members of the military substantial discounts for overnight stays or complimentary room upgrades at any Colonial Williamsburg Hotel from Nov. 1 through Nov. 24, based on availability. Individuals should call a special toll-free number—(800) 261-0203—for details and reservation inquiries. Eligible for complimentary admission and lodging discounts are:
