Two Popular Golf Tournaments Return to Golden Horseshoe in November

Autumn is the perfect time for golf in Virginia; and Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe invites golfers to enjoy two annual favorites this November. The 18th annual Couples Tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 8 – 9, and the second of two Military Invitational Tournaments this year will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 13 – 14.

  • 18th Annual Couples Golf Tournament. Nov. 8 – 9. The tournament is 36 holes of play on both the Gold and Green courses. The first round is four ball (two-person, best ball) with the team’s gross and net scores used. The second round is captain’s choice, gross and net scores used. Competitors will be flighted on the basis of each team’s total handicap, and handicaps will be verified with home courses prior to tournament. Entry fee of $490 per couple includes practice rounds on both courses; two tournament rounds, golf carts for tournament rounds, tee gifts, prizes, Sunday’s cocktail reception, tournament banquet and closing reception.   • 2010 Fall Military Invitational. Nov. 13 – 14. The tournament consists of 36 holes on the Green Course. Saturday’s format is four ball (two person, best ball), while Sunday’s is captain’s choice. Handicaps will determine Saturday’s pairings, and flights will be determined by Saturday’s scores. Teams are composed of two amateur golfers as defined by USGA rules of golf. One player must be an active-duty, retired or reserve military or National Guard member. The other player may be either civilian or military. Entry fee is $235 per team and includes tournament rounds and carts, one optional practice round (pay cart fees only) and range balls on tournament days.     Special room rates are available at the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel and Suites, one of Colonial Williamsburg’s official resort hotels. Rates start at $109 per room, per night, excluding tax and gratuity. Reservations are available by calling 1-800-447-8679 and requesting the golf tournament rate.

    The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club is a championship venue widely acclaimed for its two dynamic golf designs: the Gold Course, originally designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones Sr. and renovated by his son Rees Jones (6,817 yards from the championship tees), and the Green Course, a Rees Jones layout (7,120 yards from the tips). The Golden Horseshoe was most recently recognized by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 100 Public Access courses in the nation and is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
