Festive Dining Options Enhance Grand Illumination 2011

Dining options from brunch to dinner add to the festivity of Colonial Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination Sunday, Dec. 4. From an elegant brunch or tavern dining to hand-tossed pizza in a casual setting, there are choices to suit every taste.

  • Old English Holiday Brunch: Williamsburg Lodge from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A carving station, omelet station, all-American cuisine and delicious chocolate desserts are included on the menu in the folk art-inspired Lodge decorated for the season. $28.95 plus tax and gratuity; children 5 – 12 $14.95; children under five free.
  • Sunday Brunch: Regency Room in the Williamsburg Inn from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. $45; children $24.95, plus tax and gratuity. Sumptuous culinary temptations accompanied by live seasonal music are served in classic elegance with old fashioned service.
  • Groaning Board: Virginia Room in the Williamsburg Lodge at 4:30 p.m. $59.95; children $23.95, including tax and gratuity. Seasonal favorites chicken gumbo, warm brie tart, Southern fried chicken, Atlantic flounder, baron of beef, vegetables, pitchers of ale, chocolate cherry tart accompanied by balladeers, fifes and drums and madrigal singers.
  • Soup and Sandwich Station: Served à la carte from noon until 9 p.m. in the Williamsburg Lodge Lobby. Brunswick stew, clam chowder, hand-tossed pizza by the slice, grilled bratwurst, toasted sandwiches, tap beer and tap root beer served by the fire.
  • Tavern Grand Illumination Dinner: Served in all four Historic Area taverns: Christina Campbell’s, Josiah Chowning’s, King’s Arms and Shields. $59.95; children $23.95. Reservations begin at 4:15 for tavern fare and entertainment served in the heart of the Historic Area. Menus are unique to each tavern but all include a choice of soup or salads, a choice of chicken, beef or fish and delectable desserts selections.
  • Huzzah! BBQ Grille: Opens at 5 p.m. and serves barbecued pork, chicken and beef, ribs, salmon, pizza, sandwiches, salads and desserts in a casual setting before and after the fireworks. Entrees are priced from $10.50 to $24, and hand-tossed made-to-order pizzas from $13.50 to $20.

    The Williamsburg Lodge is located at 310 S. England St. The Williamsburg Inn is located at 135 E. Francis St. Huzzah! BBQ Grille is located at 113 Visitor Center Drive off Bypass Road (Route 60) near the Woodlands Hotel and Suites and the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center. Campbell’s Tavern is located on Waller Street across from the Capitol, while King’s Arms, Shields and Chowning’s taverns are located on Duke of Gloucester Street.
