Expert Explores Wine, Wit and Wisdom of Spain’s Rioja Region June 30

Colonial Williamsburg’s popular Wine, Wit and Wisdom program explores the diverse flavors of Spain’s Rioja wines at the Williamsburg Lodge at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30. Ana Fabiano, author of “The Wine Region of Rioja,” joins executive chef Rhys Lewis and restaurant manager Stacy Keegan guiding guests through a lively and entertaining examination of Spain’s oldest and most prominent wine region.

The Rioja tasting includes white, rosé and red varietals paired with tapas prepared by Chef Lewis. Wine, Wit and Wisdom is $45.50 per person, including tax and gratuity. Tickets are required and can be reserved by calling (757) 229-2141 or 1-800-447-8679.

Winemaking in the Rioja region of Spain dates back centuries and was primarily carried out by monks. The Rioja region covers about 210 square miles located in north central Spain, south of the Cantabrian Mountains along the Ebro River.

A passionate advocate for the wines of Rioja, Fabiano has studied the history, culture, geography and winemaking practices of Rioja and is the U.S. brand ambassador to the region.
