Colonial Williamsburg’s Junior Volunteer Expo Extends Opportunities to Area Youth

The Junior Interpreter Volunteer Expo will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Bruton Heights School Education Center. The expo showcases year-round youth volunteer opportunities available with Colonial Williamsburg.

The Volunteer Expo features opportunities for local youth ages 11 to 18. Youngsters who turned 11 by Dec. 31, 2012, will be eligible to apply for some positions. Not all programs have opportunities for children 11 years of age. Opportunities are open to residents of Williamsburg, James City County and the Bruton District of York County. Representatives from programs that have youth volunteer opportunities will be available to answer questions.

Opportunities for junior interpreters include positions with the Wythe House, Great Hopes Plantation, Historic Farming, the Powell House and the dance program.

Interested youth may obtain an application at the Volunteer Expo. The deadline for submitting the application is 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Those chosen must be available to attend mandatory training sessions in April and May. A parent or guardian must be available to attend one mandatory training session in April. Training dates will be available at the expo.

Colonial Williamsburg provides approximately 900 volunteers with opportunities in public contact and behind-the-scenes positions. For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact the Office of Volunteer Programs at (757) 220-7181.
