CW hosts 57th annual Antiques Forum
The 57th annual Colonial Williamsburg Antiques Forum, “The Discerning Eye: A Closer Look at American Antiques,” will be hosted in early 2005 in the comfort of the Hennage Auditorium at Colonial Williamsburg’s renowned DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum adjacent to the Historic Area. Forum sessions will run Feb. 6-10 and Feb. 27-March 3, 2005 due to the renovation of the forum’s usual venue, the Williamsburg Lodge, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2006.
Scheduled speakers include Sotheby’s Institute of Art director J. Thomas Savage, author and furniture historian Luke Beckerdite, and noted antiques dealer Leigh Keno who will explore fakes and forgeries, new discoveries and more. Colonial Williamsburg experts, collectors and scholars will present a series of illustrated lectures and video-assisted workshops on 18th-century furniture, maps, ceramics, textiles, paintings, metals and, of course, Colonial Williamsburg’s latest acquisitions to its museum collections.
In addition to the formal program, forum guests may register for optional hands-on workshops as well as tours of private historic homes in the region. Hands-on workshops with Colonial Williamsburg experts will include: Introduction to Passementerie: Tassel-Making Workshop; Introduction to Stoneware; Introduction to 17th- and 18th-Century Graphics; A Sampling of Samplers from the Colonial Williamsburg Collection; and Arms of Early America. Bus day trips will include the following sites: Suffolk, Va. and Ahoskie, N. C.; the Green Mountain region of southern Albemarle County, Va.; King and Queen County, Va.; and Northampton County, Va.
Conference registration must be made in advance and accompanied by the $530 registration fee per person along with full payment of all optional program fees ($85 per person per bus trip and $60-75 per person for workshops). The registration fee includes the opening reception, all presentations and workshops, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks and afternoon refreshments, a closing reception and dinner, and a Colonial Williamsburg admission ticket valid for the duration of the conference.
