Live music, popular films are highlights at the Kimball Theatre in June

The Kimball Theatre on Merchants Square will present Hampton Roads crooner Charles Darden III Sunday, June 30 at 3:30 p.m. Darden, inspired by Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima and the two great saloon performers of all time—Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra—will perform a cool repertoire of jazz, standards, blues and more. All seats $15.

An entertaining line-up of films for June includes an interpretation of Shakespeare’s “MacBeth” in the movie, “Scotland, PA.” Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, students and children.

  • June 18-20, “Pauline and Paulette,” 6:30, 8:15, 10 p.m. This Belgian film is a delightfully bittersweet story of four elderly sisters and their relationship with each other. Lieven Debrauwer makes his directorial debut. Flemish and French with subtitles. Rated PG. June 19 in the screening room.

  • June 21-24, “Scotland,” PA, 7, 9 p.m. A comic interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic “Macbeth” set in a 1970’s fast food restaurant in a small town in America. Written and directed by Billy Morrissette. Rated R. June 21, 24 in the screening room.

  • June 25-27, “The Endurance: Shackle-ton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition,” 7, 9 p.m. This film recounts one of history’s greatest tales of survival, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914-16 expedition to Antarctica. Narrated by Liam Neeson. Rated G. June 26 in the screening room.

  • June 28-July 1, “Last Orders,” 6:45, 9 p.m. Director Fred Schepisi’s adaptation of Graham Swift’s prize-winning novel is a quiet and graceful portrait of four working class Brits bound by years of friendship. Starring Michael Caine, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, Tom Courtenay and David Hemmings. Rated R. July 1 in the screening room.
