Instruments and Mechanical Arts Lab

The Instruments and Mechanical Arts Conservation Laboratory

Instruments and Mechanical Arts

The Instruments and Mechanical Arts Conservation Laboratory treats musical instruments from the decorative arts and folk arts collections. Musical instruments are primarily keyboards (harpsichords and spinets, pianos, and organs), but also include strings, brasswinds, woodwinds and drums. The lab also supports musical performances in the Historic Area through the fabrication and maintenance of reproduction instruments. In addition, the lab is responsible for the preservation of astronomical, optical and horological scientific instruments.
