Teacher Resources
: Colonial Williamsburg creates textbook material about America's history

The
partnership of Colonial Williamsburg and
Pearson Scott Foresman marks the nation’s
first history education partnership between
a textbook publisher and a living history
museum. Colonial Williamsburg will create,
develop and provide material for Pearson
Scott Foresman, the world’s leading
elementary educational publisher. The
textbooks are designed to help teachers
engage, excite and inspire their students
about America’s history.
Colonial Williamsburg, the nation’s
largest living history museum and leading
provider of early American history content,
announced the partnership at the 2003
annual meeting of the National Council
for the Social Studies.
In addition, Colonial Williamsburg has developed a special technology resource for Scott Foresman Social Studies. CD-ROMs titled “Think Like A Historian” use a variety of primary sources to teach young students to model their thinking after that of historians. The two CD-ROMs – one for grades 1- 3, and another for grades 4 - 6 – introduce students to oral histories, storytelling, images, the written word, and a variety of other primary sources, and to the sound practices of historical research. Available at the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center Book Store or by catalog order at: http://www.history.org/history/teaching/objects_sale.cfm.
