About this entry:

John Hatley Norton, listed as a merchant of Yorktown, purchased the present Roscow Cole House in 1778 where he operated his business supplying fine goods to the residents of Williamsburg. In 1781 he sold the house and moved to Frederick County with his wife Sally, the eldest daughter of Robert Carter Nicholas whom he had married in 1772.
